Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) helps cover the cost of essential dental services for children in Australia. Wyndham Smile Care is proud to provide dental services under the CDBS for children aged 2-17 years old.
Here’s an overview of eligibility criteria and services covered:
Eligibility
To qualify for CDBS, the following conditions must be met:
- Age: Your child must be aged 0 to 17 years for at least one day in the calendar year.
- Medicare Eligibility: The child must be eligible for Medicare.
- Government Payments: The child, or their parent/guardian, must receive at least one eligible government payment (e.g., Parenting Payment, Family Tax Benefit A) during the year.
How to Know if You’re Eligible
You don’t need to apply for the CDBS. If your child meets the criteria, you’ll receive a notification letter. Both parents and guardians, as well as approved care organizations, can manage claims.
Services Covered
The CDBS covers up to $1,132 per eligible child over two consecutive calendar years for basic dental services. This cap is adjusted annually.
Covered services include:
- Check-ups: Routine dental exams.
- X-rays: Diagnostic imaging.
- Cleaning: Professional removal of plaque and tartar.
- Fissure Sealing: Protective coatings on teeth.
- Fillings: Restoring cavities.
- Root Canals: Treating infected teeth.
- Extractions: Removing problematic teeth.
Exclusions:
- Orthodontic treatments (e.g. braces)
- Cosmetic dental procedures (e.g. whitening)
- Dental services performed in hospitals
Important Details
Two-Year Coverage Period:
- Starts at the beginning of the calendar year when the child becomes eligible and receives their first service.
- The full amount can be used in the first year, leaving no funds for the second year.
- Unused funds from the two-year period cannot roll over into the next.
Restrictions:
- Some items and time intervals have limits, so confirm details with your dentist before treatment begins.
- Services covered under CDBS don’t count towards the Medicare Safety Net thresholds.
